How Did We Choose Rick Steves?
Like most millennials these days, we've ditched our cable. However, we do have a digital antenna and receive four channels of PBS. Our favorite PBS Channel airs Rick Steves' Europe. In one episode, Rick explained how you can hike "hut to hut" through the Swiss Alps. We never forgot that episode because it sounded like a dream.
Jump ahead to when we were thinking about our plans for a Honeymoon and we definitely wanted to do a big trip to Europe. I tried to find an established route online for hut to hut hiking in Switzerland, but wasn't coming up with much. A couple websites later, we discovered Rick's company can facilitate and take you there himself! (Well, almost.) Having never been to Europe, we were sold on the idea of Rick taking care of accommodations & transportation. Now we needed to decide which trip to take....
Why a "My Way" Tour?
It became clear that the Alps were calling our names. We debated between the 14 Day Best of Germany, Austria, & Switzerland and the 12 Day My Way Alpine Europe.
My Way primarily stood out to us because we could choose what we wanted to do and not be confined to a group activity. Still young and working full-time, the My Way was slightly shorter and friendlier to our wallets.
It was also a bonus not having to worry about checking in and out of hotels, traveling to our next destination, and we liked having the freedom to focus solely on our activities. All of this convinced us that My Way was the best tour for us.
And it lived up to and exceeded our expectations!
Would We Travel with Rick Steves Again?
Yes! A thousand times, yes!
It was a blast traveling to a destination that the entire group was passionate about. Cynthia, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and always helpful. It makes all the difference when you're traveling with like-minded people.
Having been introduced to the philosophy of Rick's Tours, we would even consider trying out a fully guided tour in the future. I enjoyed the company of our tour-mates and it enhanced the experience more than we ever thought it would.
